Le narrateur, un marginal prêt à toutes les aventures, a parcouru l'Inde dans tous les sens pendant neuf mois, au volant de sa fourgonnette qui lui sert de maison. Il adopte et emmène en France Babou, un adolescent indien, séduit jeunes garçons et filles, vit sur le terrain, d'expédients, sans jamais se départir d'une curiosité érudite pour l'art et le peuple indiens. La vision de ce titi parisien d'un monde atroce est un étonnant mélange de cynisme et de tendresse. Thieuloy est un narrateur exceptionnel.
